Since January 2010 scientific units of the former Latvian Fish Resources Agency (LATFRA) are included in the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment "BIOR" as Fish Resources Research Department.
Our Mission is ensuring the implementation of the state policy on sustainable and balanced with available resources and environmental conditions commercial and recreational fishery in the Baltic Sea, the Gulf of Riga and inland waters in Latvia.
Fish Resources Research Department performs research on the state of fish stocks and related environmental conditions; elaboration of scientific recommendations on the national management of commercial and recreational fishery; giving scientific advice for participation of Latvia in the implementation of EU Common Fisheries Policy and other tasks.
