From 30 January to 9 February last year students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Latvian University of Agriculture are doing their field practice in laboratory diagnostics in the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment “BIOR”.
During the practice students have an opportunity to get to know the specifics of the laboratory work and possibly to choose the laboratory as their workplace in future.
Students are getting experience in following divisions of the institute: serology, virology, pathology, microbiology and parasitology, chemistry and instrumental analysis. They are finding out principles of preparing laboratory documentation as well as assisting in various laboratory works.
Prospective veterinarians are getting acquainted with specific laboratory methods and their practical application; following the testing process and learning how to prepare samples.
Before visiting laboratories students are introduced to health and safety regulations at work.
Institute „BIOR” has a successful, long-term cooperation with the Latvian University of Agriculture. Field practice is a part of the curriculum at the University and institute “BIOR” as the only veterinary laboratory in Latvia provides it under the collaborative agreement.
