The Medical Microbiology Laboratory of the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment “BIOR” is one of the largest laboratories with modern facilities in Latvia. The laboratory employs qualified and certified medical staff with great experience of work.
The Medical Microbiology Laboratory cooperates with hospitals, outpatient medical institutions, as well as with individual practitioners.
Laboratory provides all forms of microbiological, serological and parasitological investigations of human clinical material. There are also unique tests, such as blood tests for leptospirosis, testing of water and swabs against Legionella, performed only in this laboratory.
Clinical microbiological tests which are provided in the laboratory help physicians to diagnose and treat disease caused by bacterial infections.
To ensure self-control observance of counter-epidemic regime in medical institutions and to prevent the spread of intra-hospital infections, laboratory offer to provide microbiological examinations of air, surface swabs and instruments’ sterility, as well as efficiency control of bactericidal action of disinfectants.
Results (testing reports) can be obtained by post, fax, telephone, e-mail or at the place, where the clinical material sample was submitted.
The Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment “BIOR” cooperates with the Health Payment Center of Latvia (HPC).
Clinical diagnostic tests are paid according to the price list of HPC; preventative and other tests are paid according to the price list of “BIOR”.
Laboratory offers for medical institutions and individual practitioners:
- microbiological investigations (intestine, lung, urinary tract and other infections); including the disbacteriosis;
- microbiological investigations of air - droplet infection (diphtheria, meningitis, whooping cough);
- serological investigations (salmonellosis, yersiniosis, leptospirosis, listeriosis, legionellosis and other infections);
- identification and type-approval of isolated microorganisms ;
- sensitivity to antibiotics of isolated microorganisms;
- bactericidal activity test of disinfectants.
Laboratory offers for individuals:
- investigations for executing of “health book” on recruitment (salmonellosis, shigellosis and typhoid agents carrying);
- detection of staphylococci in human milk;
- investigations of disbacteriosis in cases of intestinal disorders.
Laboratory offers for dental surgeries:
- sterility detection of dental and surgical instruments;
- test of Sterikon plus Bioindicator for control of autoclave process;
- test of SIMICON DH / HL bioindicators for control of hot air sterilization process.
For hotels, guest houses and water bodies (SPA) laboratory offers determination of Legionella spp. in water and swabs.
For epidemiological surveillance laboratory offers microbiological investigations of environmental samples (food, water, swabs) in the epidemiological focuses.
