A new „Latvian Fisheries Yearbook” was published in November 2011. It is a 15th issue of the Yearbook dedicated to the Latvian Fisheries. This volume of the Yearbook presents more than 20 papers of specialists and researchers devoted fishing and fish resources, fisheries management and control, fish production and fish market, aquaculture and angling.
On October 26-27, the 8th meeting of the Nordic Biosafety Network will be taking place in Riga, Latvia, at the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment "BIOR".
The goal of the Nordic Biosafety Network is to provide a communication platform for biosafety professionals and to create a Nordic platform of applied biosafety. The Nordic biosafety Network is an expanding community with members from national authorities and institutes, public health, academia and industry.

On September 23 all over Europe occurred the annual Researchers' Night. Latvia participated at this event for the 6th time, but for the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment BIOR, as a new scientific institute, it was a new opportunity and experience opening its doors for visitors.
During the evening about 400 people visited BIOR. Among the visitors were students, teenagers, families with pre-school age children and other enthusiasts of science.
From 4-5 July, management of the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment “BIOR” on a working visit attended the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) in Berlin.
Objective of the visit - to get acquainted with the experience of German colleagues in the field of food safety risk assessment and to discuss possible cooperation in research and development.
From 30 June to 1 July representatives of the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment „BIOR” take part in the Workshop on Laboratory Diagnostic and Quality Assurance in Baltic Food and Veterinary Laboratories in Vilnius, Lithuania. The above event for the specialists of Baltic Food and Veterinary Laboratories is organized by the Lithuanian National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute.
